I’ve honestly been thinking quite a bit about what my digital story should be. I’ve gone through probably six different ideas over the past few days, everything from an idea based on a fictional story I wrote a while back to even videos having to do with certain events in my life. But then I got to thinking about what we were told last class and how much time I spent creating my site theme. Then I remembered how last class Jim Groom talked specifically about my site and podcast as being part of a sort of digital story of it’s own, and how my being an obsessed LOST-fanatic is one of those things that also keeps the internet great (thanks for making my addiction almost seem cool
). And it’s true, I’ve spent so much time over the last six years with my friends and family discussing and watching LOST.
So I came to the conclusion… why not make a digital story which is LOST-related?
I thought about what would be the best way to do this, and I eventually came to this idea. I could over the next nine to ten weeks be one of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 and communicate everything that I personally experience up until a certain point in the series. I would probably take on the persona of an unknown survivor who isn’t shown much on the show, so that I could put my own spin on how I see things. This would limit me to how far into the series’ story I could delve, as in Season Five episode two all the non-main-characters and extras were killed by flaming arrows. But I could sustain a full story for this long (heck, I’ve been following it for six years, why not!?).
My main thought on how I could do this would be through blog posts I write as this made-up character. Maybe I could have some updates on Twitter as to what’s happening on the Island at that moment. Or maybe, in true LOST fashion, I could make some short “Flashback” videos of this character and post them to my blog and/or YouTube to overview how the character got to the Island and other back story. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I like it, and the more it sounds almost like an interactive work of fan-fiction!
Of course, any comments or ideas would be great and very helpful! ![]()
Happy Trails and Namaste,
Sam.

One word: brilliant! Run with it, I love this idea, obsession is the lifeblood of creativity.
That sounds like a great idea for you — you are certainly the Lost king in the class.
excellent
Not going to lie, this sounds awesome! I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
I never thought I would agree with this opinion, but I’m starting to see things differently.
I’m digging this. It’s nice to see a Lost fan creating a product from their obsession. I really like the idea of you doing the flashback videos, and that might be a cool way to spark some sort of fan interactivity, where maybe they could start doing flashback videos of their own character. That way all of those background red shirt characters that were on the plane could be fleshed out. I like it.
Here’s is one of my own digital products from my obsession if you’re interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMV0SKCFAOU. It’s a teaser trailer I created if a Lost movie were to be created that remade the TV show. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for the support, guys! I’m glad everyone seems to like the whole flashback part the most, as it was my favorite part, too. Another one of my big passions is script writing so maybe I could make a few LOST-style mysteries for the character as well!
Austin, as to the video, that was great! I loved it, really well-done and honestly one of the best fan-made trailers I’ve seen in a while! Haha I thought I saw a clip from Up in the Air, then I saw your info. Is that your YouTube channel? As in… shall I friend-request the account?
Hey Sam. Glad you liked my trailer; I thought it was a cool idea for a teaser. And yeah, that’s my channel. I just started posting stuff at the end of last year for a class, but I think I’m gonna start posting other projects I’ve done.
I’d definitely be into some cool mysteries and twists in your LOST project. That also might be cool if in your flashbacks there is some overarching mystery that is somehow connected to some of the show’s mythology (and there’s tons of that to pick from). I’m excited to see how this will start to take shape.
Its a brilliant idea, to weave you, as an ardent viewer, into the plot. It could be where you are just off scene. Though it could get technically complex to pull off.
Another option would be to take the voice of a character who is there but does not speak at all, or much, like Vincent or Aaron.
It would be very difficult to put myself onto the show (at least the main, on-Island portion). I’ve thought maybe I could do the on-Island part as a blog, and then have the flash-backs for my character as video.
I honestly hadn’t even thought about doing either Vincent of Aaron, but that would be very interesting (and probably funny)! I wonder what Aaron would be thinking when some random crazy French woman took off with him into the jungle…
ooooh your phrase “Watching Lost” got me thinking about this as the title for the story about the LOST character that the others can’t see! But I’m not a LOST so this might be totally wrong … whatever, though .. definitely go with your passion.
I do think this is a most incredible website for proclaiming great wonders of Our God!
