Ever wanted to be part of the horrific, impoverished, post-apocalyptic, ruthlessly controlled country of Panem? Well you’re in luck! There’s a new Hunger Games viral site up by the catchy URL of “http://thecapitol.pn/,”
What’s this “districts” mumbo-jumbo about? Well, person-who-hasn’t-read-the-Hunger-Games-trilogy, in The Hunger Games, Panem (North America) is split up into twelve different “Districts”. Each district specializes in a different economical commodity and each serves the Capitol (probably located somewhere in/near Colorado). Read the rest of this entry »
It’s a New York Times bestselling series… It has a major motion picture on the way… With The Hunger Games growing more popular by the day, Scholastic is really trying to get the word out and get people to read the series. This includes major price cuts (great news for anyone who is still pointlessly holding out on reading the series). Basically: you have no excuse to not read it now.
Do you have one of them fancy Kindles? Well then just meander on over to Amazon and download the first book for only $4.69! (the physical copy is still $10)
The Kindle edition of the series was up for $4.38 yesterday (92% off the suggested retail price)! OR… Have one of dose hawt Android devices? They got you covered, too! Only $4.69 in the Android Market to read your future favorite book on a tiny phone screen!! In fact, most of Suzanne Collins’ books are $5-7 on the Market… which means I’m thinking about picking one of her other works sup. If I do happen to read one, I’ll let you all know what I think.
Long story short: you have no excuse not to read the series. So quit making excuses. Just. DO IT.
Believe me at all times with sincerity and respect, your faithful and obliged servant,
Samuel P. Jackson
No news for you today. Today is reserved for something far more dumb.
This is a rather hilarious Hunger Games fan fiction I came across recently. If you’ve read the Hunger Games, you’ll probably immediately recognize and enjoy it. It’s awful. But possibly gut-splitting-inducing (depending on whether you actually have a good sense of humor).
You can read it all here. Basically, the author took The Hunger Games chapter by chapter and substituted characters, lines, and object for outrageous things. As a fan of the series, I think it’s a pretty great parody. IN FACT: In honor of this humorous find, I have decided to include a Hunger Games quote with every post. Today’s quote seems fitting.
“I pull an arrow, whip the notch into place, and am about to let it fly when I’m stopped by the sight of Finnick kissing Peeta. And it’s so bizarre, even for Finnick.”
Have you been waiting for more “Artemis” calls on Facebook? Well TOO BAD. You can’t BE in the Hunger Games movie ANYMORE. But it’s for good reasons. So smile!
Lionsgate has wrapped up filming for The Hunger Games. Actually, they wrapped up on September 10. No word on what was the final scene shot was. They were shooting Capitol scenes at the end of July in Concord, NC. Though, I doubt they took this long there. The last shots were taken in North Carolina. Actually, most of the movie was filmed in North Carolina, not but a few hours from where I sit. But I didn’t make it into the movie. Why? Because I suck. Because I’m a dreamer, not a doer. Apparently… apparently… ;-|
All my dreams went up in fire and smoke. Kind of like this.
There was some talk (due to Russ Bowen’s Twitter) that Lionsgate would be doing some reshoots through October, especially in Charlotte, NC. Russ Bowen has Read the rest of this entry »
I’m back from my posting break!! I’ve got a new computer, other new hardware, and a new passion to… POST THINGS! Yes, it’s true. And there’s been a lot of new Hunger Games info that I need to keep everyone updated on. Yep. Because I’m the only source of Hunger Games news, after all! Now down to business…
There’s only one thing that’s important today. TONIGHT AT THE MTV VMAs A PROMO FOR THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIE WILL BE SHOWN! Yes, you read that right. Tonight (Sunday, August 28) at 9/8c Jennifer Lawrence will make an appearance at the VMA’s, where she will introduce the promo for the film. This is awesome news!
You are all gathered here today to please me with your ear-full indulgence as I smack your brains with a big-stick-like rant that’s been a long time coming. No, I won’t smack everyone. This rant is meant for those few who revel in the defamation of the beautiful. Those impious few who compare The Hunger Games and Twilight. Those who infuriatingly say “The Hunger Games is basically the Twilight love story, yuh know? Ya-uhh” (read with a prissy, preppy male/female voice). I’ll warn you now: if you like Twilight, you might want to stop reading here. I don’t want to offend anyone with any of this, just slap them for offending me. See? So let’s now just agree to all be happy! After I slap you in the face. *Ahem* Let us start our completely dispassionate discourse at the base of this totem pole of rotten logic.
The Hunger Games and Twilight. The first mistake here is placing them on common ground as written works. Right off the bat every silly comparison FAILS. This is the primary heresy upon which every other bad argument here is based. To use the accusers’ own second-grade logic: The Hunger Games is good writing, Twilight is not. There is no fair connection between these two works of fiction. The Hunger Games is deeply thought through and written from a realistic emotional standpoint. It’s not written in a simple, limited style. There’s not a simple description of events coupled with outbursts of emotion. You only know Katniss and what matters to her at that moment. That fact may annoy some readers, but it’s a rather ingenious way to tell the story. In fact, the story really couldn’t sensibly work any other way! No over-arching descriptions of the world or events. Just the basic emotional connection to the moment. And, ultimately, it’s what matters to her that drives Panem forward.
Still workin’ on it. Thought you all could use an update. It seems weird, even for me, to get on my site supposedly devoted to the Hunger Games series and see [honey] bunches o’ LOST pictures. I get it, I’ve just run into some problems… as ALWAYS. I was psyched to get my theme up and running some sweet Flash animations. That idea has since fallen through. So then I decided I’d like a nice clean UI or homepage from which to view my posted pictures/videos, casting, fan projects, etc. I want to include a link to my photography/video cache. Maybe even include a link to previous info about LOST or my other obsessions. So I started updating my home page in anticipation! Head on over to the chasinglilly.net home pageand check it out! Currently it looks a little funky on a few Safari/iPad browsers I’ve tested it on. But as long as you’re running Firefox you should see it and think it’s cool. Hey, it’s only temporary so I was not about to put too much into it!
I was able to start a mini photoblogging site for my pictures. It will also be home to some sweet videos once I get a break! You can check it out at chasinglilly.net/artsyfart. You can also click the homepage banner to visit it, as my new instructions point out! I’ve got it set up to post a new photo every day till the end of August. Hopefully by then I’ll have some more time on my hands to shoot some new ones and get some videos running! W00t!
Back to the Hunger Games train-of-thought: the new UI ideas fell through as well, though the menu has made a MENTAL COMEBACK IN MY MIND! Long story short I’m coming close to finalizing my ideas for it and such. Looks like it’ll use some .gifs in the place of flash animations for this particular design. I’ve never really worked with .gifs much before (mainly because I can’t help but think “1990s” when I hear the file extension), so it’s a bit of a learning experience for me! As a test I placed a fiery mockingjay .gif on the home page. I’m also going to put into use that slick Hunger Game countdown clock they’ve got going over on the Hunger Game movie site. That’ll take some flash coding anyways, I suppose. The blending of all the elements will really make the site “catch fire” if you get my drift I’ll keep you updated. If all goes well, I plan to have it up by this time next week! Exccciiiittteeemenetenetentent inDUCING, I know!
I even updated my banner up top from “The whole world stopped on May 23, 2010…” to “I’m workin’ on it, OKAY??” just so you guys know!
I know this isn’t exactly a “new” shot of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, but man is it cool. Still my favorite of all the shots thus released. Katniss is such a great character, I really hope the team is able to translate her depth well. So I thought I’d share it with everyone!
Sam Jack Seal of Approval.
In other news I missed this photo from yesterday’s EW Hunger Games bonanza. It’s probably my favorite of the Peeta pictures so far. I especially dig it because it reminds me a bit of LOST. The way the quote in the picture is worded is a little bit silly. I’m trying to imagine someone saying it over and over in my head and it makes me smirk.
THANK YOU ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY! They were the first to give us a look at Katniss a while back. This past Monday they named the Mockingjay Pin which Lionsgate handed out at Comic Con the “Most Essential Single Piece of Swag“. Now they’ve granted us the first movie stills + some sweet on-set photos! Below you’ll see two shots of Liam Hemsworth as Gale and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta. Until this moment I kinda detested the choosing of Liam for Gale. First, he wasn’t what I imagined at all. Second, “The Last Song”. ‘Nuff said on that point. But here I think he looks fantastic! And for those of you who were still worried about Josh Hutcherson and his dark-haired look, I hope these images give you some solace. I think the blonde look actually works and gives Josh a Peeta-ish hue. He at least looks lees kiddy/Zathura-y.
Dumb article name. Cool picture! Click to enlarge.
